CAMBRIA'S NEW MAST : REVIEW 2007
The new mast improved the rating from -73 to -52 which made Cambria much more competitive although still outrated. It did, however result in much relief to the rest of Cambria's hull and the ole girl breathed a sigh of relief... She sails noticeably higher and faster with the additional prebend that the mast could handle thanks to the uniformity of the timber. Notable results however, were difficult to achieve with the fickle breezes of the Mediterranean that season. Great sailing was had with Mariquita particularly and also Lulworth and Mariette. However, conditions were against us and the aforementioned yachts topped results of the season.
WINTER 06/07- New Seams into the deck
- New sewage treatment plant.
- Modifications to the mainsail, specifically a Cunningham added.
RACING SEASON '07Voiles d'Antibes, May
Proved perfect trial for the improvements on the mainsail and results reflected that she was competitive with her new rating of-26. To put this into perspective, Mariquita carries a +34 and Lulworth +6. With the conditions favourable Cambria showed that she could now push for handicap honours not just over the water. With her last race on the Sunday in an average 12 knot breeze finishing just 6 minutes behind Mariquita on corrected time, though beating her by 8 minutes across the line we felt that a podium place was achievable.
Cruising, July
Cambria left to cruise Turkey. From Kusidasi to Antalya. Fantastic cruising, beautiful waters.
Monaco Classic Week, September - Cambria 1st Place
Belle Classe Regatta - including big class yachts; Eleanora, Lulworth, Mariquita, Alejandra, Moonbeam IV, Sunshine. Cambria sailed well in light conditions on all days, not only winning across the line, but also on handicap, beating the favoured Mariquita and Alejandra.
Cannes Regates Royales
Great regatta despite the difficult conditions. Racing against Eleanora, Mariette, Mariquita, Tuiga, Sunshine, Lulworth, Moonbeam III and Moonbeam IV, Cambria proved the most consistent, again winning not only over the water but also on handicap. Conditions ranged from 35 knot squalls to 3 knot drifters and everything in between.
Feeder Cannes - St Tropez
After a great start in unfavourable conditions for Cambria (20+knots), we caught a running backstay on the top spreader thus damaging the rig and withdrew.
Voiles de St Tropez, October - Cambria Winner Valkyrie TrophyHaving spent two days carrying out repairs to the rig, Cambria rejoined the fleet on the second day of racing. This day proved a positive trial day with the aim to be competitive for Thursday: Challenge Day which also hosts the Grande Classe Race between Cambria, Mariquita, Sunshine, Moonbeam IV, Shamrock, Ranger, Velsheda, Eleanora and Lulworth. The J's competing but due to modern rig equipment, unable to claim a place. Cambria took the lead in light conditions and maintained her position throughout the race. Though following Ranger and Velsheda over the line, she took all in her class to claim victory for the second time.
Cambria and Mariquita now hold two wins each of the Valkyrie Trophy. The first to three retains the trophy et al.
SKIPPERS NOTE: Cambria was sailed and raced particularly well in the prevailing conditions for the season. Results have shown her true status amongst the fleet after so many years of being outrated. The feeling of being competitive to both yacht and crew was sustained throughout the season and we look forward to 2008. |
